Easy D.I.Y Moss Terrarium

Terrariums are a super fun way to introduce greenery to your space in small doses! Not only are they easy to maintain, they’re just as easy to make. When it comes to building an aesthetically pleasing terrarium, I like to keep the color palette consistent with my interior, that way the terrarium become a more intentional décor element vs. a super colorful terrarium that you’ve bought on a whim.

Feel free to use the tutorial as a guide to creative a terrarium that truly speaks to your personal style. So have fun with this DIY project and create something that is uniquely yours!

MATERIALS

  • Glass container of your choice

  • River Rocks

  • Sheet Moss

  • Reindeer Moss

  • Potting soil

  • An assortment of Cacti and Succulents

  • Activated Charcoal

  • Tongs or Chopsticks to handle the Cacti

  • Spray Bottle

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Add a layer of river rocks to the glass container to provide drainage

  2. Add a layer of activated charcoal to kill any bacteria that may try to live in your terrarium.

  3. Add a layer of Sheet Moss evenly and ensure that it covers the entire surface area so that you see the layers when you look at the terrarium from the side.

  4. Add a generous layer of soil evenly and dig wells in the soil where you plan to place your plants ( I promise this step will make your life easier.)

  5. Cover soil with river rock or sand. The choice is your but I like to use river rocks to create more depth and texture to the top surface area.

  6. Add balls of Reindeer Moss in various spots to enhance the look and feel of your terrarium.

  7. Lightly water your terrarium if needed.

  8. Grab your spray bottle and give the plants a light misting.

  9. Wipe water from the glass to prevent water stains on the glass.-You know we don’t do water stains around here.

  10. Lastly, enjoy your new terrarium!
