One Room Challenge Fall 2021: Week 1 | Main Bedroom
Last week I announced that I was invited to join the One Room Challenge as a featured designer and I was truly shocked that I had been chosen! I’ve been a fan of the One Room Challenge since the early days of my design career, and always wanted to be apart of it. But at first I didn’t know you had to be invited to participate, nor did I know about being a guest participant! (LOL) I was ready to just barge in on the One Room Challenge like I started it!
If you’re not familiar with the One Room Challenge, it’s an eight week interior design event that was started by Linda of Calling it Home in partnership with Better Homes and Garden! All designers (and guest participants) have just eight short weeks to transform their space.
I confirmed my participation about a month ago and It has been so hard keeping the joy to myself, now I get to share it with you! Although I’m exited to have been chosen, I’m a bit nervous because any designer can tell you how hard it is to design a space for yourself. Yes, it may be hard, but I’m excited to turn my main bedroom into what feels like a very chic boutique hotel.
Our main bedroom has been one of the least-seen spaces on my IG feed mainly because it was never completed. I also didn’t make any concrete plans for this room, I’ve just bought pieces as I went along and pieced the room together. Fast forward two years, the space isn’t completed and is full of stuff I don’t necessarily love; like these IKEAS Malm dressers!
I thought they were sleek dressers that fit the space perfectly, but they all ended up being different colors and I was too lazy to return them. -Or shall I say they were too heavy to carry down two flights of stairs, then into my car THEN into the store, so we’ve decided to just live with them.
In addition to having a bunch of things I don’t love in this space, I also painted this room a really moody gray color but to be honest, the blue undertone is a nightmare! That’s why it’s so important to sample the paint on all walls and live with it for a few days before committing to one color. -I was clearly too impatient to do so!
My overall goal is to really elevate this space to feel like the boutique hotel that I never want to leave! Almost everything will change except for the bed, but who knows, that may be changed too. Next week I’ll be sharing my design plans for this room so stay turned.
In the meantime, head over to check out some of the other featured designers’ projects to get more design inspo!
