Guest Bedroom Reveal
* THIS BLOG POST IS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ALLMODERN *
Earlier this year, we moved into a new house with more space that would finally allow us to have a guest room again, and I was thrilled about that! We had a guest room at the last place, but it was short-lived because it was converted into an office to suit my work-from-home needs as a full-time Interior Designer and Content Creator. Although the previous home office suited my needs, we had nowhere for guests to stay when visiting us; they would have to stay at a nearby hotel, which wasn’t ideal. I love hosting and curating an experience for my guests; we can’t do that if they have to stay at a hotel.
Upon moving in, we couldn’t decide which of the two spare bedrooms would become the guest room, but the other bedroom gets better natural light throughout the day, so we decided the more gloomy bedroom would become the guest room. Once the guest room was chosen, I enlisted the help of my AllModern family to come through and provide me with some items for the makeover. Before selecting new pieces, I shopped my house, garage, and storage unit for the perfect items to repurpose and add to the design plan.
BEFORE
Once the AllModern pieces were selected, it was time to get busy because you know they ship items exceptionally quickly, which is one of the reasons I love the brand. The first step was painting the room; before, the room was white, and the color did nothing to add depth or any visual interest to the space, so I selected Gray Matters by Sherwin Williams. It was the perfect mid-toned gray with a green undertone which was an ideal way to offset the amount of blue natural light the room got throughout the day.
Once the walls dried, it was time to put the room together! I started with installing the Andre Chandelier, which was perfect for the space. The combination of brass and black metal was just what I needed to tie the entire room together. I also love that there are six lights on this fixture which makes the space bright, but the fixture is dimmable, so my guests can always adjust the light level to their liking.
After the chandelier installation, the bed assembly followed shortly. The bed I selected for this room was a low-profile bed with clean lines because, again, this room is pretty tiny, and I didn’t want to overwhelm the space with furniture that didn’t fit the room's scale. I chose the Zuma Pumice fabric and wasn’t sold on it, but I fell in love when it arrived.
Once the bed was assembled, putting together the rest of the room took no time! I’m in love with how this space turned out; I didn’t think it would look as good as it does because I sometimes doubt my decision-making for my own space.
AFTER
The goal for this guest bedroom was a stylish, multifunctional space that would allow my guests to have a cozy bed, a workspace, and, of course, a corner to cuddle up with a good book. And all of that was achieved in this small 10’ x 14’ bedroom.
I’m obsessed with the jute rug and the boucle swivel chair! The richly textured rug greatly impacted the overall space and is so cozy underfoot, unlike most jute rugs. The swivel chair has been on my mind since I took it for a spin at the AllModern store opening in Boston back in June; fast forward to today, it’s in my home, and I couldn’t be happier.
To create the perfect workspace/hair & makeup station, I paired this chic mirror and luxurious leather office chair (both from AllModern) with an old desk that I've been storing in the garage for that right moment. So happy that I never got rid of this desk because it was the perfect size, color, and texture for this guest room.
